    About the 21:9 ratio

21:9 (2.33:1) is the marketing name for ultrawide monitors and some phone screens, and a popular “cinematic” crop for photos and video — close to the 2.39:1 anamorphic “scope” ratio of many feature films.

    Pixel sizes: exact 21:9 at 1080 lines is 2520×1080. Ultrawide monitors sold as 21:9 are slightly wider: 2560×1080 and 5120×2160 are 64:27 (2.37:1), 3440×1440 is 43:18 (2.39:1).

Printing: treat it as a panorama — 7×3, 14×6 or 21×9 in are exact 21:9; at 300 ppi 14×6 in needs 4200×1800 px.

Film & cameras: scope films (2.35–2.40:1) are close and fill a 21:9 screen almost edge to edge. Cameras crop it from a 3:2 or 16:9 frame — from 3:2 a 21:9 crop keeps about 64%. Several Sony Xperia phones used 21:9 displays.
