    About the 3:2 ratio

3:2 (1.5:1) is the native shape of most interchangeable-lens cameras, so it is what an uncropped photo from a full-frame or APS-C camera looks like. Upright it is 2:3, the shape Pinterest recommends for pins (1000×1500).

    Pixel sizes: 3000×2000 (6 MP), 6000×4000 (24 MP), 7200×4800 (34.6 MP), 9000×6000 (54 MP).

    Printing: 4×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30 and 24×36 in are all 3:2, so camera files print without cropping. At 300 ppi a 4×6 needs 1200×1800 px; a 24 MP file (6000×4000) prints 20×13.3 in.

Film & cameras: the 35mm (135) frame is 36×24 mm, and full-frame digital sensors copy it; APS-C sensors (about 23.5×15.6 mm) keep the same shape. 6×9 medium format (56×84 mm) is 3:2 too.
