    About the 9:16 ratio

9:16 (0.5625:1) is 16:9 stood upright — the full-screen vertical format of Instagram Reels and Stories, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Most current phones are even taller (around 19.5:9 or 20:9), so apps fit 9:16 video to the screen with a small crop or bars.

Pixel sizes: 1080×1920 (the standard upload for Reels, Stories, TikTok and Shorts), 720×1280, 1440×2560, 2160×3840 (vertical 4K).

Printing: 9:16 has no standard print size; a 1080×1920 frame gives only about 3.6×6.4 in at 300 ppi, so vertical frames are usually cropped for print.

Cameras: phones record it by filming upright. From a horizontal 3:2 photo a 9:16 crop keeps only about 38% of the frame, so turn the camera if the shot is meant for Stories.
